It looks as if the weather has followed me - and left the sunshine back in Scotland! Yesterday was an astonishingly wet day!
We're
in UB, and Roger who is studying bats in Ikh Nart went with me to the
Natural History Museum. We saw the dinosaurs, and the woolly rhinos and
mammoth, and found the moose with red deer antlers and scenarios showing the animals from the various types of terrain in Mongolia.
Back
at Zaya's we found that Ciera had arrived so we all three went to
Gandan Monastery in the pouring rain. The streets were running like
rivers, there were lanes that were slippery with clay mud and trying to
get back to base we found ourselves walking along kerb stones to keep
above 3-4 inches of water! We were absolutely soaked - jacket, trousers,
boots, shirt, the lot!
We
had a look around the monastery, and sat in on a ceremony where the
monks chanted with cymbals and drums. It was a bit worrying taking
pictures around the temple complex with the rain, but the camera seems
to be OK.
