Kenya day 10 - Exploring the Villages

This morning I decided to walk round part of the trail we followed on Saturday, but this time on my own. It was bright and sunny, even at 06:30, and there were lots of people about - bunches of neatly turned out kids in school uniform, often one big girl with half a dozen very small boys and girls.
Off to school

I found a man climbing a coconut palm to get the sap for palm wine - he just used the steps cut into the tree like a ladder and then stood on the branches at the top while he swapped the collecting bottle in the crown of the tree.

On the way back, I saw a flock of Speckled Mousebirds and managed to get a few photos.

After breakfast it was time for the Monday meeting. This week there were 23 people there and it was obvious that the song book rebuild is badly needed, since there were four people sharing each tatty old copy. We sang a song called 10,000 Reasons - I must look it up...

By the time we finished it was raining hard, and it stayed wet the rest of the day. In some ways that was a good thing, because I got all the songs into the book. Now I just have to figure out how to make the first-line index...

Discussion over dinner was about getting better internet - it's really difficult to get a decent connection, and folk are trying to do serious research here. It sounds as if they'll have to start restricting access during the day so that those who need it get on, but others have to wait.
