Kenya day 15 - Arabuko Sokoke Forest - all day!

I arranged to go with Jonathan Baya, who is a guide for birdwatching and safaris in the game parks near here, into Arabuko Sokoke Forest for the day. We actually had an early morning and a late afternoon visit. Here are some pictures from the morning:

African Goshawk

Black-headed Oriole

Sunbird
We also saw seven Red-bellied Squirrels - very like Red Squirrels - several of them ran across the road.

The highlight was the Sokoke Scops Owl - David Ngala had been up at 4am following them in the forest until they settled to roost, and then he had marked the spot with scrapes on the ground and bunches of leaves from the bushes. The two tiny owls were perched snuggled together on the fork of a tree. They knew we were there, and they were watching us while we were watching and photographing them, but they didn't seem bothered by all the attention. These are very rare owls; they only live in this forest.

Two Sokoke Scops Owls!

Now the other one's looking at me!
On the way back for lunch, we found this Chameleon crossing the road with a sort of determined shimmying motion. When it got to the other side it grabbed a plant and almost vanished:
Chameleon crossing!

Spot the Chameleon!
